dr hab. Maciej M. Sokołowski PhD, DSc

Doctor of law (PhD) with habilitation (Doctor of Science, DSc) in legal science. Specially Appointed Associate Professor at the Faculty of Policy Management of Keio University, also affiliated with the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Warsaw.

Expert in the field of energy law, economy, and energy sector. Author of Regulation in the European Electricity Sector (Routledge, 2016) and European Law on Combined Heat and Power (Routledge, 2020). Author of about 80 papers and reports on renewable and conventional energy, artificial intelligence, public, energy, environmental, and nuclear law. Reviewer of recognised journals (Energy Policy, Energy & Environment, Transforming Government: People, Process and Policy, Journal of Renewable and Sustainable Energy, Energies, Case Studies on Transport Policy, European Energy and Environmental Law Review, Electronic Government, Energy for Sustainable Development, Journal of Energy & Natural Resources Law, Sustainable Production and Consumption, Review of European, Comparative & International Environmental Law, World Electric Vehicle Journal). Associate Editor of Global Pandemic Network Journal, Editorial Board Member of Energy & Environment and Global Energy Law and Sustainability.

Graduated from the International School of Nuclear Law organised by the OECD Nuclear Energy Agency in cooperation with the University of Montpellier (France). Researcher at the University of Basel, Europa Institute (Switzerland), granted the Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship (2013 - 2014). Researcher at the University of Gothenburg, School of Business, Economics and Law, Department of Law (Sweden), granted the Swedish Institute, Visby Program scholarship (2012 - 2013). Granted the municipal government of Shanghai scholarship (2014) at the Shanghai University (China). Visiting Associate Professor at Keio University (Japan). Visiting Researcher at the University of Tokyo (Japan), and Visiting Researcher at the Meiji University (Japan).

During short-term academic stays (research grants / lectures) visited, inter alia, KU Leuven (Belgium), the University of Copenhagen (Denmark), the University of Sarajevo (Bosnia and Herzegovina), the National and Kapodistrian University in Athens (Greece), the University of Sydney (Australia), the University of Waikato (New Zealand), the University of Seville (Spain), the University of San Francisco (USA), UC Berkeley (USA), the Chinese University of Political Sciences and Law (Beijing), or the University of British Columbia (Canada).

Participant of the Vilnius Summer Law School Climate Change, Energy and Trade Law (Lithuania). Scholar of the Minister of Science and Higher Education. Lecturer at ELSA Ankara Summer School on Energy Law (Turkey) and ELSA Brasov Summer School on Energy Law (Romania). Moot court judge.

President of the ABC Institute. Vice-President and Director General of Eastern Wind Foundation. Executive Director of the Public Board of National Program for Reduction of Emissions (between 2009 - 2012). Former Mobility Coordinator, Head of the School of Polish Law at the Faculty of Law and Administration, the University of Warsaw. Member of the Young Scientists Council (VI term). Former Member of the Council of the University Centre for Environmental Studies and Sustainable Development. 

Fond of history, enjoys playing shamisen. Fluent in English, speaks and writes in Swedish and German. Learning Chinese, Italian, and Japanese.

Keen on water sports (a lifeguard and a sea skipper), plays tennis and squash, does karate, skilled in nunchaku usage. Passionate about running (a marathoner) and cycling.

Happily married to Kinga. Proud father of a wonderful daughter.
