"Resolving energy policy failure: Introducing energy justice as the solution to achieve a just transition". This is a title of my receny paper co-authored by Raphael J. Heffron and myself.
Below are some key points from our paper:
- Energy Justice: At the heart of our discussion lies the concept of energy justice. With its five key principles - distributive, procedural, restorative, recognition, and cosmopolitan - energy justice offers a powerful lens through which we can address the pressing challenges in the energy sector.
- Transformative Change: Our paper highlights how energy justice can drive transformative change. Already visible in certain countries, this approach emphasises fairness, equity, and inclusivity. By examining real-world examples from the United States, Colombia, and South Africa, we demonstrate how energy justice principles are making a difference.
- Urgency for Reform: The scientific reports from the United Nations and the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change underscore the urgency for reform. Societies worldwide must align their energy and climate goals for 2030 and 2050. Energy justice, infused throughout the energy sector, can pave the way for a safer and more sustainable future.
- Global Challenge: Energy policies’ continued failure is a global challenge. As responsible world citizens, we are collectively engaged in the battle for a just transition toward a low-carbon economy.
I invite you to explore our paper in Energy Policy and join us in advocating for energy justice. Stay tuned for more updates and insights!
